About the office

The Research Office provides leadership and support for the management of research and research training across the University. It administers external research funding, promotes the responsible and ethical conduct of research, and develops strategic initiatives to enhance the experience and outcomes of higher degree by research students.

About the role

The Project Officer supports the delivery of research governance and strategic initiatives through effective project coordination, monitoring, and reporting, providing analysis, documentation, and support to project leads, steering groups, and senior decision-makers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver of a portfolio of strategic and operational research projects, ensuring clear scope, milestones, dependencies, and deliverables are defined and tracked.
  • Apply structured project management practices, including development of plans, schedules, risk and issue registers, action logs, and progress reporting.
  • Support research governance initiatives, including policy development, framework implementation, and governance uplift activities.
  • Prepare high-quality project documentation, including briefs, implementation plans, status reports, and post-implementation reviews.
  • Manage governance processes for committees and working groups, ensuring effective documentation, action tracking, compliance, and follow-through.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement, risk management, and data analysis activities to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • Relevant degree qualification with experience in research administration, project management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and extensive relevant experience, preferably within a university or research environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting complex projects, including planning, tracking progress, managing risks, and delivering outcomes to deadlines.
  • Experience supporting senior leaders, including preparation of audit materials, compliance reporting, and governance documentation.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality committee papers, reports, briefings, policies, and procedural documentation for senior audiences.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, with proficiency in relevant systems and software (including Microsoft Office and databases), and a focus on process improvement and service delivery enhancement.
